When Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corp. Executive Director LaShawn Allen Muhammad took me to a weed covered lot at 97 Glenmore in 2021, she proclaimed that a gleaming tower would soon arise with our headquarters on the first floor. Four years after my first visit to Brownsville, the densest population of African-Americans in the United States, Glenmore Manor topped off.
It was June 2023 when home-grown developer Ericka Keller and project manager Chima Joseph, who grew up across the street, led us in breaking ground for the development by Brisa Builders and Developers. By the time, Central Brooklyn EDC was seleceted as Community Partner of the Year by LISC NY in April 2024, the first floor had been poured.
When we launched the 21st Journal of Black Innovation National Black Business Month (R) in August, we were near the top, just a few months later. Central Brooklyn and Brisa have more projects in the pipeline as we implement the New Black Urbanism.
