Michigan ranks seventh in Black Business Index

DETROIT — VOTEBLACKBUSINESS: State of Black Business, 21st edition ranks Michigan seventh in its annual Black Business Affinity Index.

Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, our opening speaker during 2017 Journal of Black Innovation National Black Business Month, has continued a focus on making capital available during his second term alongside Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

On the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, the state noted: “Michigan has always led in the fight for equity, and in 1964 – the same year the Civil Rights Act became law – ours was the first state in the nation to enshrine civil rights protections in its constitution. The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is determined to build on that legacy of leadership, taking on today’s threats to civil rights, from language access to artificial intelligence and beyond.”
