We Fought, We Vote: 150th anniversary of the 15th Amendment describes the mass mobilization by 4 million new African-American citizens to preserve the gains they won in battle with the right to vote.
Unlike the 13th Amendment and 14th Amendments which served a coalition of interests, the 15th Amendment was a determined exercise of power exclusively by Black voters, whose unity attracted support from Congress and three-fourths of state legislators
