Ranger Betty Soskin, the oldest federal employee ever, has passed, according to her family. After what most would consider retirement age, she decided to bring her knowledge and intensity to the Rosie the Riverter National Monument in Richmond, CA because she lived through World War II.
That included hosting a sailor from Port Chicago for dinner on the day that hundreds were killed in the most deadly domestic accident of World War II.
Her husband was also owner of Reid’s Record Store in Berkeley, a spark for numerous musical legends.
Honored by President Obama with a medal, Soskin kept up.a busy schedule at parks across the Golden Gates National Recreational Area and became the face of the National Parks Service.
