Defense secretary builds ties with Angola

Angolan President João Lourenço greets historic visit of U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is the first holder of his post to visit Angola on Wednesday, Sept. 27 in Luanda giving a major speech which reflected on the continent’s wave of military coups and a surge in U.S. direct government to government engagement. Angola is the home of the captives who landed at Jamestown in 1619 and their ancestors visit yearly, sparking development of a trail which chronicles the start of the Middle Passage.
