Mandatory listening for all American students should be the choice of President Abraham Lincoln for his last birthday–Rev. Henry Highland Garnet’s Memorial Discourse–the most important speech in African-American history. Contrary to current diatribes, it was the message that unified the country around three Constitutional Amendments which are the foundation of modern America.  Ruling Elder John William Templeton re-enacts the speech at Garnet’s church, 15th Street Presbyterian in Washington, D.C.   He would later be the Overture Advocate for the 485-9 vote by the Presbyterian General Assembly in 2018 to publish the speech as a book by the Presbyterian Publishing Corp.
